Every football player has to have certain necessities to properly play his game. Much of this equipment and accessories are hidden in the locker room. There is a whole lot of stuff stored in any team’s locker room, and it is pretty amazing how much they need to actually play football. This equipment and clothing needs to be stored and taken inventory of.

Each player of an NFL team is usually fitted with a practice set of jerseys and 4 other sets. The player’s practice pants are usually made of mesh or nylon. Also if it is a rainy or muddy game, the players will usually change clothing during half time.

The players most definitely need hand and foot protection. Without gloves, the receiver would not be able to catch the ball very well. Also without foot protection the players would constantly get hurt. This is why their cleats are so important too.

Many players wear gloves called tact gloves. These gloves have rubber palms. Defensive linemen also wear gloves. Even though they don’t catch the ball, they still have to use their hands to fight off their opponents. The linemen’s gloves usually have thicker padding to better protect their fingers.

The shoes are one of the most important pieces of equipment. If they aren’t the proper cleats they will stick to the turf and cause players to have knee injuries. There are many aspects that make up a good NFL football team and clothing and equipment are an integral part.

The basic aim of any defense on a football team is to block the opposing players called the offense. There are plenty of ideas and philosophies on which football formation is the ideal to keep the opposing team from making points. Here are a few of the more common but innovative defensive football formations that are commonly used in American football these days.

• 4-3 defense- this is a formation that many teams use today. The alignment consists of 4 down linemen and 3 linebackers. The three linebackers are in the front.
• The 6-1 defense- This is a variation on the 4-3 defense. The formation features 3 linebackers in the front and 4 down linemen, but the four linebackers move up on the linemen. This puts a total of 6 defenders up front on the line.
• The 5-2- This is a very basic formation featuring 5 down linemen and 2 linebackers. Two cornerbacks also line up to defend the wide receivers.

If you don’t know all of the rules, football can seem quite confusing. But once you learn them it really isn’t that difficult. By learning the lay out of the field, the teams and the different formations, you will be an expert on football in no time. It also helps to brush up on all of the methods of scoring and the penalties and what they consist of. Once you do this, you will be on your way to understanding football. It can be an exciting game to play and to watch and is an all -time American favorite.

Equipment is a very important part of professional football like the NFL. Every game you see the equipment. You see helmets, balls, shoes and jerseys. Much of the equipment you don’t see though. It is just as important to the game.

Many people actually never consider football equipment, especially the equipment that they never see. Have you ever thought about the practice sweats the team wears or the screws in the bottom of their cleats? You probably haven’t, but these are all very important.

The average NFL team consumes about 2300 pairs of shoes in a single season. That is a lot of shoes! There has to be someone who keeps track of all this stuff. That person is called the equipment manager and they have an incredibly important role in the NFL.

He has 2 big areas where he has to really work his hardest. The first is in protecting the players. He has to fit each player on the team with the best equipment for his needs. This is to ensure that he is protected at all times.

The second important role of the equipment manager is in managing the logistics. He must handle the tons of equipment every day that the team uses. He has to be sure it is all in good shape and in stock. If it needs repaired he has to take care of that as well.

The job of the equipment manager on an NFL team is one of great importance, and it is also very demanding. It is never to be taken lightly. The equipment manager deserves just as much respect as anyone else on the team.

There are positions in football called special teams that perform special functions throughout the game. Here are a few of these positions and what they do.

Gunner- This is the member of the team that runs down the field to tackle the kick or the punt returner.

Kick returner- This player catches the kickoffs and then attempts to get them in the opposite direction.

The Long snapper- This is the player that is basically like the center in offense. This player however specializes in longer snaps for field goals and punts.

Punter- this player stands behind the line of scrimmage. He catches the snap from the center, and then he attempts to kick the ball after he drops it towards his foot.

Placekicker- This player kicks the ball at kickoff. He makes extra point and field goal attempts as well. He will either kick the ball off of a tee or another player will hold the ball for him.

The Punt returner- This player catches the ball after it is punted. Then he runs back towards the punting team’s end zone.

As you can see there are many special teams positions on a football team that help teams win games. Even though these aren’t the most talked about positions, they are still very important to the team overall. Without their special talents, a football game just wouldn’t be the same. There are many roles on the team of football and each position is needed in order to have a successful season and win games.

The standard features of a football field are laid out in a particular manner. The layout is as follows:

• The sideline- This is six foot wide and it runs the length of the football field.
• The end line- it connects the two parallel sides.
• The end zone- these are two 10 yard wide spaces at both ends of the field.
• Goal line- this is 8 inches wide and it runs across the end of the zone. There are two pylons that flank the end of the goal line.
• Goal posts – centered at the back of each of the end zones are goal posts that are 10 feet high.

Of course the ball is the most essential piece of equipment any football player has. Official NFL footballs are hand- made and made by Wilson .The football is an oblong sphere that is about 11 inches long. The ball actually consists of a polyurethane bladder that is inside of a cowhide material.

The actual game consists of four quarters with a halftime break. If after four quarters there is a tie in the game, they go into overtime. The first team that makes a score wins the game. Even though the quarters add up to only an hour, it usually takes 4 to 5 hours to complete a football game. The referees stop the clock often every time there is a penalty, and this slows down the game quite a bit. Time also stops for each two minute warning.

The NFL is planning to investigate some allegation that 5 Redskins players have against Gregg Williams, the defensive coordinator. They are saying he had a “pay performance” type of operation going similar to the one revealed in 2009 by the NFL.

These allegations were reported on Friday by the Post. The players prefer to stay anonymous. A league source reportedly told the Post on Saturday that the NFL will investigate these allegations. A system is described where Williams operated a system where he paid players thousands of dollars for what are called “kill shots.”

Reportedly the players got compensated more for kill shots than regular hits. Joe Gibbs who was the Redskins coach at that time says he is shocked by these latest allegations. He says he was completely unaware of this system going on while he was coaching.  He says he just can’t imagine asking a player to hurt another player. Matt Bowen who was a defensive back that played under Williams says that it was easy to buy into his whole system. He says that Williams was a great motivator.

Bowen says he has a way of making you do what he wants and he makes you push the envelope too far. Bowen reports that it was a system that many of the players bought into. It made them feel tough and invincible. This is just another scandal that rocks the world of NFL. They aren’t hard to find they are at every turn when it comes to professional football which involves millions of dollars.

On Thursday Jerome Simpson of the Cincinnati Bengals pled guilty to drug related felony charges. He could face 60 days in jail for the crime. He made an agreement with the prosecutors. He also may face being suspended from the football league for breaching out the conduct codes.

This drug case has put him in jeopardy since September, and on Thursday he faced the judge in court. The case involved a package that was dropped down to his house in Kentucky containing two pounds of marijuana. The package was traced by agents in California. After this incident, agents searched Simpson’s house and they found approximately 1 pound of another addictive drug called the “marijuana”.

He was convicted on felony drug trafficking charges. The agreement he made changes the charge, but it is still a class D felony. There are those who think Simpson doesn’t deserve any harsher treatment or any more lenient treatment. Drug charges are drug charges. He should be treated equally as anyone else would be.

The judge can announce the 60 day jail sentence or reduce it on a hearing that is scheduled for April 5^th. The judge did inform Simpson that he wanted full disclosure about the details of his case on that hearing in April. Simpson’s attorney says that the Judge and the court will see a completely different side of Jerome Simpson in April.

The agreement also announce at least 200 hours of community service and 3 years of probation. If the judge finds it appropriate, Simpson can have the work release program as well.

The state local representatives for the Minnesota Vikings are ready to propose a new plan for a new stadium. They have scheduled a news conference on Thursday to discuss the proposal. A spokesperson says that it will be built by the current Metro dome site. The Vikings are expected to pay more than fifty percent of the cost of construction.

They will also be required to stay for 30 years without any local or state taxes being imposed. In previous discussions about the Viking’s new stadium the cost was estimated at 1 billion with the Vikings contributing 400 million. The Minnesota leaders are considering diverting taxes that are going to fund the city’s convention center.

The negotiators have been working for several weeks on plans for this new stadium. In recent years the Vikings have lagged at the bottom of the league in revenue for the past several years. The amenities in the current facility are out dated and the concourses are cramped to say the least. This is why a new stadium is in order. The Vikings are being asked for public subsidies for the new stadium. The Vikings have been asking for money for a new a stadium for decades now. They site that their need will be sufficiently profitable. The negotiations will continue and soon there should be a final decision on the new stadium proposal. The Vikings are hoping for the positive response that they desperately need.
